Growing up in Hollywood around the entertainment industry, I knew at 11 years old after watching the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show that I wanted to play music, so I taught myself bass guitar and drums. In 1977, I met Peter Beckett and J.C. Crowley, and the two singer/guitarists asked me to join their new band Player, where we wrote and rehearsed our music in a garage in the Hollywood hills. The group came to the attention of music impresario Robert Stigwood and his RSO Records label, and our Lambert- and Potter-produced ballad "Baby Come Back" became a number one pop hit. We toured with Eric Clapton, Boz Scaggs, Heart, Gino Vanelli, and the Little River Band, as well as our own headlining concerts.
In 1981, I left Player to pursue acting, and in 1987 I originated the character of Ridge Forrester on the CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. That role became my life for the next 25 years, but it never meant I stopped being a musician. After leaving the show in 2012, I toured with Player again alongside other yacht rock artists like Ambrosia, Christopher Cross, Al Stewart, and John Ford Coley, before deciding to tour as a solo artist.
I've been writing original music for films I've been producing and doing various concerts and appearances in Italy, Bulgaria and Belgium. My 2020 album "Lockdown Lover" features a new version of the classic Player hit "Baby Come Back" and was inspired during the lockdown as a virtual love song to our world. I'm constantly reinventing myself... actor, bassist, frontman, filmmaker. The music never stops.
